The Alameda County Probation Department contracts with community based organizations to provide youth and family counseling for families who are dealing with incorrigible, truant, or runaway youth. Second Chance provides these services for Newark. The goal of the counseling is to keep the families together, rather than have the child end up in foster placement or an institutional setting. Referrals are made from schools, police, and the families themselves. Our Case Management services are available to assess the additional service needs of participating youth and their families and to connect them with appropriate resources within and outside of Second Chance.
