Parents of Teenagers Support Group

Having a parent support group at Second Chance has been helpful as a resource for parents who are at a loss as to how to discipline their teenagers. Many parents participate in the group because of concerns over their teenagers' use of drugs and alcohol. Others may be unable to get their kids to go to school. Or their teenagers may be hanging around with kids who are a bad influence. In the support group, the parents learn the importance of teenagers having consequences for their behavior, and about setting clear rules and boundaries. Other topics covered include the importance of example, the need to talk with rather than at teens, and how to pick the important battles and not sweat the small stuff. The group is ongoing on Wednesday nights from 8pm to 10pm. It is held at the Second Chance Alvarado Center. (Click on LOCATIONS at Home Page for map and directions.)
